Two things happened in October 2017 that have changed Las Vegas forever, 1 October and the Vegas Golden Knights were born.
Our town was rocked by the worst mass shooting in the history of America on October 1st. 58 beautiful people lost their lives that night. Hundreds of people were critically injured and have lifelong wounds and scars. And the thousands that witnessed who have to live with the memories of that night forever.
On October 10th our Knights in Gold hit the ice for their first home game and since that day our #vegasborn team has brought our town so much healing. They vowed to help however they could and they have done that hundreds of times over.
7 months later you see people wearing Vegas Golden Knights gear everywhere. So many cars on our streets have Vegas Golden Knights stickers and flags. Business buildings and marquee signs have the message Go Knights Go!
Our group of friends have watched the majority of the playoff games together and we meet at our local bar, The Santa Fe Mining Co. We have to get there 2 hours before the game to get tables, because the place is packed with fans. To hear an entire bar erupt with cheers when a goal is made is so cool.
My local bakery tsp. Baking Company makes special Golden Knights mini cupcakes on game days and I get a dozen every game watching party we go to. We get to indulge in yummy cupcakes and get Golden Knights rings to wear. I am literally finding these little rings in all of my purses and every time I pull one out it makes me smile.
When we were in San Francisco we made sure that we were free to watch the two playoff games while we were there. We were shocked to be joined by quite a few other Golden Knights fans at the Golden Gate Tap Room. And when we clinched the Western Division Championship we got love from our rival San Jose Shark fans.
For Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals we wanted to be a part of the action and headed down to the home of our Golden Knights the T-Mobile Arena, Toshiba Plaza and The Park. As soon as we walked up the electricity and excitement in the air was amazing. Being with thousands of other Las Vegans, thousands of other Golden Knights fans really hit me. We were all there rooting for the same team, our team, the Vegas Born team, the Vegas Golden Knights.
From the flyover of the Air Force’s F-35 fighter jets, to the cheers, to the jeers, to the high fives with complete strangers it was an experience I will never forget. Our town has come together like no one could have imagined.
Vegas is Golden Baby! Vegas is a hockey town! We are Vegas Born! We are Golden Knights! We are Vegas Strong!
Thank you Las Vegas Golden Knights for being our town’s Knights in shining armor or more appropriately, hockey suits! Now let’s finish these finals and bring that Stanley Cup home to Las Vegas!
go knights go!
