Celebrating 17 years in San Francisco

On May 19th my husband, Sean,  and I celebrated 17 years of marriage and to celebrate our anniversary we took a trip to one of our favorite places, San Francisco.  San Francisco is a very special place for us as we have celebrated numerous special events in our life there.

18 years ago we were in San Francisco attending Sean’s Uncle’s wedding and as we had finished dinner on Pier 39 he got down on one knee and proposed to me.  Since that moment San Francisco became one of my favorite travel destinations.  We celebrated my 30th birthday at the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park.  And we celebrated our 16th and 17th wedding anniversaries there.

This years trip was not just to celebrate our anniversary, but also for my husband, my brother-in-law and our friend to run the Bay to Breakers 12k.  This was our first time experiencing this race and it was well worth it.  They ran from the San Francisco Bay near the Embarcadero through the city and finished at the coast of the Pacific Ocean.  One of the traditions of this race are for the runners to dress up in costumes and we saw people dressed up as bananas, in tuxedos, in robes and slippers.  Another tradition is also to run this race naked as nudity is still legal in San Francisco.  We saw a dozen or so brave nudists running, which was beyond entertaining.

San Francisco was not only hosting the Bay to Breakers race, but also a large medical convention, so the hotel rates were beyond expensive.  Last year we had stayed at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins on the top of Knob Hill and I had fell in love with the hotel and location, but this year the room rates were just way too high to stay there.  I had watched and shopped room rates for months and it wasn’t until about a week before our trip that I finally locked in a rate that we were satisfied with.

I used the Hotel Tonight App (this post is not sponsored) and booked our stay at The Argonaut Hotel located in Fisherman’s Wharf.  This is a hotel that I had always wanted to stay at.  It is a part of the old Del Monte Cannery row and the building is all exposed red brick.  It is located on the corner of Hyde and Beach, right where the cable cars turn around and kitty corner to The Buena Vista Cafe, which is famous for their Irish coffees.

I was ecstatic that we were staying at The Argonaut, because I had booked a photo shoot with an amazing blog photographer, Shannon Righetti.  The area around The Argonaut was amazing for our photo shoot, we were able to capture some of my favorite parts of San Francisco all in one area.

My shoot was at 1:00 and we had arrived in the city at around 11:00 and The Argonaut was able to accommodate us in checking in early, so I was able to touch up my makeup and hair and also do wardrobe changes in my room instead of a public bathroom.

I was so excited and nervous to shoot with Shannon, because she shoots for some of my favorite San Francisco bloggers/influencers that are HUGE!  It was such a fun experience, she made me feel so at ease and she is a true sweetheart.

It was so fun including Sean in the photoshoot, because he is usually my Instagram husband who is behind the camera taking pictures.  We really had a fun time letting Shannon capture our love for each other and helping us kick off our 17th anniversary weekend.

Until next time San Francisco!

XoXo,

Lindsay
